The lecture is delivered by Yuri Yuryevich Vetrov – Honored Artist of Russia, ballet historian, professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Did you know that the first ballet lasted 5 hours and was danced by court ladies and gentlemen? And Louis the 14th began to be called the Sun King, having performed the role in the costume of the radiant god in a ballet performance? And how to properly cross your arms and tilt your head to confess your tender love for your beloved?

At the lecture, students will learn about the history of the formation and development of ballet art, about outstanding personalities – ballet dancers, choreographers, composers and decorators. The lecturer will talk about the legacy of the chief choreographer of the XIX century Frenchman Marius Petipa and his duet with the legendary P. I. Tchaikovsky, explain why the “Shadow Dance” in “Bayadere” is considered a masterpiece of choreography and why the choreographer used dolls while working on the production.

Artist, Teacher, Choreographer. Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. The leading character dancer of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia. He graduated from the Leningrad Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory,
under the leading choreographer of the twentieth century Yu. N. Grigorovich. He completed an internship at the Bolshoi Theater of Russia. Diploma winner of the International Ballet Masters Competition in Moscow. He has directed television films – ballets. “Adagio”, “This
wonderful world”. The choreographer in S. F. Bondarchuk’s film “Red Bells”. At the Bolshoi Theater of Russia: dancing in the opera “The Spanish Hour” by M. Ravel.
“Masquerade Ball” by D. Verdi. As well as a large number of concert numbers and miniatures . Striving for the integrity of the director’s concept, he implemented new editions of ballets.
“Don Quixote” – L. Minkusa. “Cinderella” by Prokofiev, “Giselle” by A. Adan, “Swan Lake” by P. Tchaikovsky, “Paquita” by L. Minkus, etc. on the stage of the Nizhny
Novgorod Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. S. Pushkin, the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater, in the ballet groups “Ballet Moscow”, “Russian
national ballet”, etc. Choreographer -choreographer of the musical E. Shiryaev “Viva Carmen” at the Moscow Theater “Romain”. He taught at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, professor.
Currently works as a choreographer in various Russian and international projects, associate professor of the Faculty of Arts
Lomonosov Moscow State University. Chairman of the expert commission of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow for awarding the titles “Moscow City
Creative”, “Leading creative team of the city of Moscow”.
